DemocracyInAction is seeking an experienced manager to lead its marketing and outreach efforts to help the organization reach its next stage of success by broadening its audience and dramatically increasing its member base. This position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced marketer who is eager to make his or her mark in the social change movement.
The position’s overall purpose is to broaden DemocracyInAction’s audience of potential users, enhance the brand reputation, and to convert prospective users into paying members. In this capacity, s/he works most significantly with the Executive Director, the Director of Communications, and as a public contact point for prospective users and the broader community of which the organization is an integral part.
Working directly with the Executive Director, the Director of Marketing and Outreach will develop and implement the outreach plans aligned with the organization's strategic goals.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
-Crafting and implementing a strategic outreach program to dramatically increase DIA’s user base;
-Managing regional outreach programs and staff in California, New York, and Montana;
-Developing and implementing PR/Communications strategies for the rollout of new programs and tools;
-Providing oversight and coordination for DIA’s website;
-Managing and collaborating with communications staff on the design and production of all print and electronic marketing and outreach materials;
-Traveling to field offices and special events, as needed;
-Overseeing event outreach and marketing;
-Representing DemocracyInAction at conferences and events;
-Handling direct sales inquiries, including general public-inquiry calls and e-mails regarding system capacity, setup procedures, terms of service, needs assessment, etc.; and, participating in meetings with consultants and prospective users;
-Developing proposals in response to RFPs;
-Developing brand strategy;
-Identifying new opportunities, whether paid, earned or “free”, for raising DemocracyInAction's profile and enhancing its reputation among prospective users and referral resources accessed by prospective users;
-Maintaining general expertise in current online communications practices and testing and implementing nontraditional outreach channels as possible.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal attributes and experiences:
-Exceptional oral and written communications skills are a must.
-Self motivation and ability to work in fast-paced environment with little supervision.
-The ability to work closely with, support and manage the expertise of the staff, with superior management techniques.
A passion for cultivating new opportunities for growth and new revenue streams while maintaining fiscal stability. An entrepreneurial nature married to a service-providing orientation and an ability to act creatively and nimbly in response to the unexpected.
-Comfort communicating about the technical aspects and strategic uses of Democracy in Action’s core online advocacy and communication application, Salsa with both technology and non-technology staff at potential client organizations.
Experience working with web-based services and technologies
Understanding of the nonprofit sector and the particular tech needs of advocacy organizations
-Willingness to learn new technologies
